In Which Much Is Accomplished

Last night I was in the kitchen loading the dishwasher when I heard a crash and a startled yell from the back bedroom. I ran back there to discover Jeremy teetering on the very front of his wheelchair. He'd scooted forward in the chair to try and turn the light off, overbalanced, and the whole chair pitched forward. Luckily he was okay-- but I'm glad that I was home and not off at the grocery store or something, which would have made it considerably more difficult for him to make it upright again. One more thing to look forward to when the house is finished-- light switches he doesn't have to strain to reach.

I spent the whole first half of the day in the car-- the new license and registration came for the van, and we needed it today so that we could get on post. So I dropped Connor off at school in the morning, drove an hour up to the dealership in Everett to pick up both and to have a minor adjustment made to the ramp mechanism, and then turned around and arrived back in Puyallup just in time to pick Connor up. We drove home, where I fixed lunch, and then Jer, Connor and I got back in the car and drove to Jer's appointment at the hospital. By the time we got home it was almost 5:00 in the evening; so much for working on the landscaping today!

However, while I was doing all that driving around, David was tackling the giant wall of ivy, and over the course of eight hours or so managed to uncover the entire retaining wall! I stopped by the house in the evening and was shocked by the amount of work he'd done.

At this rate, we'll have finished some time in the next few days! Though I should probably say "he'll" and not "we'll" as I haven't technically touched any of the ivy yet.

When you've got a hardworking friend armed with a two-foot long pair of hedge trimmers, who needs a goat?

I guess the next important question is "does the city have rules about picking up vegetation on trash day?" Let's hope not!

Oh, my goodness! It looks so different!

David is a really, really, really great guy. Better than a goat, even!

What a great guy! Just be aware that ivy will probably come back. It's considered a noxious weed here in our state.

Goats are highly overrated! I cannot believe how much work David has done. What a good friend!

And I am very glad that you were home to help Jeremy when he toppled over - you guys are really going to appreciate that new house when it is done!
