In Which We Get Ready For A Wedding

Today I went out shopping and bought Connor's outfit for my sister's upcoming wedding. I am ridiculously in love with that hat, and couldn't resist buying it even though Connor believes that hats are the root of all evil. Hopefully I can get him to wear it for the fifteen seconds required to take a picture with him in it. We'll just have to see.

I'm a little bit worried about how he's going to do on this trip-- travel is always pretty stress-inducing for him and he's already been through so many stressful changes in the last few weeks. I'm hoping I'll be able to get him settled in before the wedding on Saturday. I wish we had a few more days before the wedding for him to get acclimated (we leave on Tuesday) but that's just the way it goes sometimes. At least his face looks like it's clearing up a little.

Jer's going to stay here; his dad is flying into town to keep him company while Connor and I are gone. Once we get back it'll be just the three of us for the first time since Jer's been home. I'm sure we'll have some adjusting to do but I'm confident we'll rise to the occasion. I'll probably start packing up the house when I get back so it's finished in plenty of time for our move. There's no point in leaving everything to the last minute.

Jer is slowly getting more flexible as he continues his range-of-motion exercises. The right leg is definitely stronger than the left, which isn't surprising as he lost the top calf muscle in the left leg (which has kind of an interesting contour now, by the way) so there's not nearly as much muscle to do the work now. Because his feet have been elevated for so long his thighs and hamstrings have become really tight, so we do stretching exercises every day to loosen them up.

If he's lying on his stomach he's able to bring the left leg to an angle that's slightly less than 90 degrees now, and he can bring the right leg in so the calf is about six inches away from touching his thigh: a major improvement. The swelling has gone down a lot which is great, though it means that he can feel the wires sticking out of his feet a lot more as the soft tissue tightens up around them. He'll be going back in a couple of weeks to have the ones that stick up out of the skin removed-- pretty sure he's not particularly looking forward to it.

It'll be good, though, because we'll be one step farther down the road towards him walking again.
